Sei Network Proposes Shift to EVM-Exclusive Architecture, Dropping Cosmos Support

Sei Network, a blockchain platform currently supporting both ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Cosmos-based operations, is considering a significant architectural shift. Developer Philip Su’s proposal SIP-3 outlines plans to abandon CosmWasm contracts and native Cosmos messaging in favor of EVM-exclusive operations.

The MOVE aims to streamline development and reduce maintenance complexity associated with supporting dual execution environments. A community discussion scheduled for May 14 will determine whether the network proceeds with this strategic transition toward EVM exclusivity.

This potential pivot comes as many blockchain projects face increasing pressure to optimize their technical stacks. The decision reflects ongoing industry debates about interoperability versus specialization in blockchain architecture.
